Senior Risk Advisor Control Testing

Large Corporates & International (LCI) serves large Norwegian and international corporate clients, including the operations of DNB Finans. The Risk & Strategy (R&S) division is a global premise provider within financial and non-financial risk, strategy and restructuring. The division is responsible for setting overall direction, coordinating, monitoring implementation, communicating and reporting on all risk and strategy work in LCI. The Non-Financial Risk & Financial Crime (NFR&FC) section is responsible for the work within non-financial risks, divided into the four departments 1) Privacy & Security, 2) Governance & Operational Risk, 3) Analysis and 4) Financial Crime & Conduct.

 

The Department Governance & Operational Risk has the responsibility to support the LCI business to manage non-financial risks. Our goal is to facilitate efficient governance and control of operational risks by being skilled experts and pro-active advisors. Our key activities are internal control oversight and governance, management of incidents, third party risk, issues, own tax and emerging risks. In addition, we work with product control, Service Level Agreements, Regulatory Change Management, Supervisory Oversight and reporting of non-financial risks to different management levels.

 

About the role

You will be responsible for Control Testing and play a pivotal role in assessing, testing, and ensuring the effectiveness of the operational risk controls within LCI organisation. This position is critical in mitigating risks, enhancing process efficiency, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. You will work closely with various teams, including risk management, compliance, and business units, to design, execute, and report on control testing programs.

 

Key Responsibilities

Control Testing and Evaluation

  • Create a testing schedule covering all LCI’s testing requirements.

  • Conduct independent testing of operational risk controls in the LCI organisation to ensure the control environment is robust, comprehensive, and effective, by evaluating their design and operation.

  • Include in control testing the pre-testing activities such as scoping, testing documentation, and logistical requirements of the relevant stakeholders.

  • Assess adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Identify control gaps, weaknesses, and potential risks, providing actionable recommendations.

 

Risk Assessment and Analysis

  • Collaborate with LCI’s business units to understand key risk areas and their associated controls.

  • Analyse testing results to identify trends, systemic issues, and areas for improvement.

  • Support the risk assessment process by providing insights from testing outcomes.

  • Track the remediation of any defects identified by the RCSA process.

 

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare detailed reports summarising testing results, observations, and recommendations.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of testing processes, methodologies, and outcomes.

  • Ensure timely communication of significant issues to senior management and relevant stakeholders.

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Work with stakeholders to strengthen control frameworks and implement risk mitigation strategies.

  • Monitor changes in regulations and industry standards to ensure testing methodologies remain up to date.

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of the operational risk control testing program.

 

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with internal audit, compliance, and risk teams to share findings and align risk management efforts.

  • Provide training and guidance to business units on control testing methodologies and risk management best practices.

 

Required Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in operational risk management, internal audit, compliance, or a similar role within the financial services industry.

 

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of operational risk frameworks, control testing techniques, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in use of risk management tools, and data analysis software.
  • Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint; experience with data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI) is a plus.

 

Other Qualifications

  • Certifications such as ICERM, ICFSRM, ICORM or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with frameworks like COSO or ISO 31000.
  • Experience with regulatory requirements such as Basel III, SOX, or GDPR.

 

Competency Profile

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in a Scandinavian language and English, including the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
